LauriTuovinen_LoRes_cropThe KDD-CHASER project was carried out by Dr Lauri Tuovinen under the supervision of Prof. Alan F. Smeaton. Hailing from Oulu, Finland, Lauri received the degree of Doctor of Science in computer science and engineering from the University of Oulu in 2014. In his DSc thesis he proposed a multi-faceted model of the process of knowledge discovery in data (KDD), addressing three aspects of the process: actors and workflow, data management, and software architecture. In 2017 he was awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship by the European Commission, providing him with funding to relocate to Ireland to work with Prof. Smeaton, who had been the external examiner at his thesis defence. In the KDD-CHASER project they built upon Lauri’s previous work, combining it with the idea of remote collaboration between experts and non-experts and focusing on analysis of personal lifelogging data as the application domain of interest. After the completion of the project, Lauri returned to the University of Oulu, where he works as a Senior Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor of AI and data ethics in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
